Sometimes we tend to invest in pieces we use the least. They sit in our closet waiting for these very special occasions to be worn. I think if you want to spend the money, do it on clothes you spend more of your time in. Same with people in our life. Our energy and time should be spent on those we care the most about. Don't invest in those who put you down or wait for your every fall. These individuals will suck your energy and weigh you down.
If you've been following my blog you would know by now that I am a big fan of buying pieces that you can wear year long and for different occasions. This Robert Rodrigues dress I bought about a year ago and it's been my to go to item for casual outings as well as more formal dinners. I love a piece that is universal. One that I can play with and reinvent every time.
I am going tonight to attend a formal dinner. I will wear my high pumps, my dressy purse, and will add a touch of sophistication to this simple dress by wearing a statement necklace. I used not to like wearing big jewelry. I thought it looked like someone had just won a medallion for great achievement. But why not? It is actually not a bad thing at all. Each one of us is a champion in his/her own circle. Each one of us is in one way or the other a great achiever. Bring the hero in you to the outside world and celebrate your uniqueness. After all, your presence in this world is the biggest miracle..

Never let anyone put you down for you are God's creation and your presence in this world deserves the gold medal...
When I'm out and about running errands I want to be in comfortable clothes, high heels have to stay home. Does it happen to you though when you have to run to the mall or to the drug store to grab something and you don't expect to see anyone; so you leave with you hair undone, no make up whatsoever, you might even have a facial mask still cooking on your face, only to be surprised by someone you know greeting you? I mean how embarrassing!! I had this happen to me a million times and every time I make a promise to myself not to leave the house without being all cleaned up and well dressed. A few times I stick to my promise but then I don't seem to run across anyone I know! As soon as I go back to my old habit I get greated again by an acquaintance with the comment:" OMG I didn't know it's you, you look so tired"! Hmm, that's it I have to find a way to be comfortable while running errands in style. My solution; a nice scarf to throw over anything to make it look chic, a pair of sunglasses to hide my tired eyes or to pull back my undone hair, a cute comfy espadrille and and am out the door feeling great and looking elegant.

Sometimes you want to create a theatrical entrance when joining a party. You don't have to buy a new outfit to do so. I usually spend money on pieces that I can get the most use of and I can wear at different occasions. To make an outfit party appropriate and to create this dramatic entrance I use contrast. A bold contrast makes you stand out. Think about musicals and theaters. A primary element in making great Broadway shows is stage design. Colors, contrast, and lighting are what give us this wow effect. I recently attended Flash Dance and even though the actors did a great job, there was something missing. I think It lacked in production. Lighting was horrible and so were the outfits and colors which made an otherwise terrific performance look mediocre. Theatre is a totally different element than movies. Besides great voices and acting, for a musical to make it to Broadway the setting has to be dramatic.
For my dramatic theatrical entrance this evening I'm using black and gold. I will turn a casual skirt and blouse into a formal eye catching outfit.

I love the pureness and freshness of white, but on a pale skin that hasn't seen the sun in months it washes off. Ivory, on the other hand, is the way to go when you're feeling "white" but need some warmth and richness. It is the natural color of the highly prized elephants' tusks and pearls that have been used in expensive furnishings and jewelry. It is a great neutral that promotes feelings of pleasantness and calmness. Applied as a paint in interiors it gives an airy feel but with an upscale ambience.
An Ivory outfit refreshes your mood, adds luster and glow to your skin, and gives you the sophistication and under stated elegance you're looking for. When wearing Ivory "Less is More", but if you want to accentuate its richness, add a hint of gold.

I woke up this morning to the lovely sounds of birds. Spring is almost here, slowly but surely. We Michiganders are privileged to experience the change of the the four seasons. For me personally It brings a lot of excitement to my life and gives me the opportunity at the beginning of every season to re-evaluate, de-clutter, and set new goals.
As the trees are starting gradually to put on their new leaves, we are peeling off our heavy winter layers one at a time. I usually take this opportunity to let go of everything that is not serving me creating space for new things and new possibilities. As we can no longer hide behind our heavy winter outfits, eating healthy and exercising will replace munching on junk food and sitting in front of the tv for long hours.
I am welcoming this Spring with a pop of bright orange wearing a scarf my mom gifted me a long time ago. This is one of the items that I will never get rid off. It's one of the most valuable pieces in my closet. Wearing it brings back so many wonderful memories. So here is my first spring pop with mommy's scarf..

I stopped buying clothes am not comfortable in even if they are gorgeous. Have you noticed how some ladies look miserable in their high heels or super tight outfits? I used to sacrifice comfort for looks, but not anymore. When you're in pain it does show on your face. Especially when traveling, you don't want to be suffocated or tortured by what you're wearing. I might not be able to wear pajamas on airplanes, but I come so close to it. The main thing for me is to avoid tight clothes or high heels. I try to stick with the darker shades, but I always add a pop of color using a scarf, a chunky one that serves as a little shawl when it gets cold. It's amazing how this small detail bring comfy to a stylish level..

If you've ever been to Vegas you would know that there isn't much to it at day time. The city comes to life after dark. The beauty of its architecture can then be appreciated when the lights go on. All of a sudden these concrete buildings are turned into marvelous gems. Being an Interior Designer I understand the importance of lighting. It transforms interiors, accentuates architectural elements, influences the mood, affects color. Without lighting everything would look and feel monotonous and dull.
How does this affects fashion? Well, when I am feeling or looking tired an easy solution is to add sparkle to my outfit and accessories. After all what woman doesn't like a little sparkle every once in a while? Light reflecting earrings or necklaces, crystal studded outfits, all help brighten your skin and bring it to life.
On my last trip to Vegas I bought this crazy crystal studded belt. Lets see how I work it in my Friday night outfit. My goal is to look sparkly but not like a chandelier, evening chic but not too formal.

I mean literally speaking. The bohemian bottoms are back. They are the the center of attention, the focal point, the statement this season. With their bright prints they take the front seat. It's time for tops to sit back and let the pants do the talking. This Trend actually can be worn in so many different ways creating different looks. For me I want to look chic and elegant with my colorful print pants. This is why I am going to keep everything else neutral and let the pants do the talking..

In life as in fashion. You don't have to always run the show. It's sometimes a good idea to take the back seat and let your presence shine through your silence. It is what I call "active silence". Words aren't always your best communicators, your confidence is. Let your beauty and grace be the statement. Intrigue people to try to figure you out. Give those you love the chance to tune in to your inner voice. Let your soul do the talking ;)
I was flipping through magazines for what's trending in 2015 fashion weeks. Romantic looks with a bohemian relaxed fit seem to dominate the runways. They are reminiscent of old times. They take us back to the 17th and 18th centuries. An era that highlighted the most beautiful romantic novels. Usually I pick the trends that fit my style and I tweak it to make it my own. After all, trends should work for us not the other way around.
Two of the 2015 spring trends I am obsessed with are lace and suede. They are the best representatives of that romantic era. Went back to my closet and found this very old dress that survived many closet de-cluttering events. Chiffon, lace, flowy, exactly what am looking for. Combined with my Valentino suede boots I am ready to hit the runway; my own personal runway ;)
