A lot of things happen to disturb our piece and shake our beliefs. It's hard to protect love when there is a lot of hate and violence around us. Everyday we hear news of shootings, of abuse, of theft. On the personal level we face disappointments at work, in our families, friends, and our health.

We start feeling that life is unfair. Anger builds up, and with anger resentment creeps in pushing love away. When love disappears sadness takes its place. We loose our balance and our vision becomes blurred. We realize that we are only hurting ourselves and consuming our energy in a destructive way.

Forgiveness creates closure and gives the opportunity to move on. Holding grudges is weakness. It weighs us down and makes us collapse. When you love yourself you realize that you need to let go and maybe make peace with whomsoever did you wrong. No matter how hard, but it's the only way to rise and be strong.

<![CDATA[Happy Valentine's Day]]>Tue, 13 Feb 2018 22:55:14 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/happy-valentines-dayWhere did this day get its name from? Per the BBC it got its name from Saint Valentine who was a priest in Rome in the third century. When Emperor Caludius banned marriage thinking it disrupted the focus of his soldiers, saint Valentine felt that it's unfair and broke the rules conducting marriages secretively.
When the Emperor found out, he sentenced him to death. In jail, he fell in love with the Jailor daughter. February 14th marked the day of his death sentence. Before his life was taken he sent his beloved a love letter signed "from your Valentine." Since then people celebrated that day in membrane of Saint Valentine.

The guy sacrificed his life for others to live their love. It's a proof that love is stronger than hatred. Whether you are celebrating with a partner or not, let your self indulge in the realm of love; whether be it towards family, friends, strangers, God, the universe, or yourself. Let go of misunderstandings, failed expectations, and differences. Let love lead the way.

Love is a choice. Don't let the world or others take it away from you. You don't have to be in a relationship to experience it. Just let go of all the negativity and invite love in. Let it settle and take over your senses. Look around you with loving eyes. Love brings happiness, it brings peace, and it lets us live in harmony. Happy Valentine's Day..
<![CDATA[The Casual Funky Style]]>Thu, 01 Feb 2018 16:13:33 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/the-casual-funky-styleAn elegant fashionista is not always going for the classic chic style. We sometimes like to funk it up a bit as the hippie in us screams to be let out;) It all depends on the mood. How we feel dictates how we dress and choose to face the world at a particular time or day.
When you're feeling wild and ready to experiment, go hunting in your own closet. You will be surprised of what you'll find. Funky fashion is one that is eclectic. So have fun combining pieces that you didn't think you would.

I found this military green summer dress sitting in my wardrobe. The style is exactly what I'm looking for. I also found this bright orange turtle neck that I bought years ago. I used brown tights to winterize my dress, a pair of funky boots, large hoop earrings, and a back pack to complete the look. Not bad ;)

<![CDATA[Metallics & The Golden Globes]]>Sun, 28 Jan 2018 20:49:29 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/metallics-the-golden-globesThe trendiest of trends that is still going strong is metallics. It's a futuristic, it's glamorous, it's flashy. Shiny clothing and accessories aren't restricted to evening wear anymore. We've seen designers adding a pop of metallics to full blown shine looks to their evening, day time, and even sport looks.
You can go low key with lame and sequins by introducing one shiny item to your outfit. I have a silver sequin tank top that I love to pair with a denim jacket, a skirt and bikers boots elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/how-to-rock-sequin-in-a-casual-outfit You can also have a sequin pair of espadrilles for a funky trendy look.

I went this time for the all metallic approach. From the halter top, to the skirt, to the pumps. Some fashionistas steer away from the whole shiny look in fear of a trashy looking result. To avoid this, first avoid tight fitted clothing. Go for more classic silhouettes and longer hemlines. Avoid showing too much cleavage. Keep your look classy for a flashy result vs trashy.

<![CDATA[Personalize A Dress, Make It Your Own]]>Wed, 24 Jan 2018 17:50:31 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/personalize-a-dress-make-it-your-ownFashionistas like to be unique. They want to stand out and make a statemnt. This is why we shop cautiously wanting pieces that no one else have (or at least we want think that way.) But what happens when you fall in love with a dress only to find out after you bought it that a lot of your gals have it?
I love watching the "who wore it best" segment on fashion police or in magazines. I don't like the title though. It' is not a competition of who wore it best, but rather how each one personalized it and made it their own. Our styles and figures are different, and a fashionista in someone who knows what works for her body type and is true to her style.

I fell in love with this dress and bought it. Before I got to wear it even I saw it on a few of ladies in my circle and it looked fab on each one of them. I wanted to return it, but I loved everything about it and decided it to keep it, but personalize it a bit.

My style is a combination of chic and funky. I love combing dressy and casual. I am also a "less is more" kind of a gal. With this dress, I accessorized minimally, went for a funky pair of sandals, and threw a leather jacket over it for more of an effortless, informal look.

The way you do you hair, the way your carry yourself, the way you accessorize, are all elements that make a piece you are wearing unique. Don't copy others, but rather find your own mode and be true to it.

<![CDATA[Everyday Winter Closet Essentials]]>Mon, 22 Jan 2018 13:39:51 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/everyday-winter-closet-essentialsIt's more challenging to put an outfit together during winter than it is during warmer months. The cold, the snow, the possibility of falling prevent us from wearing certain things, especially heels. Staying warm and safe takes priority over looking stylish.
This is not to say that we can't look fashionable while running errands. It just means that we have to equip ourselves with the some wardrobe essentials that will help us achieve that. Of course this varies from one person to another depending on your personal style.

Footwear is the number one propriety. Invest in comfortable stylish boots that you can wear everywhere. I got these Chanel boots a few years back and they are extremely comfortable. Tall boots vs short ones depend on your winter closet items. I wear a lot of leggings, shorts, and mini skirts that tall boots are the way to go for me.

My second essential is a pair of shorts or a mini skirt that I can wear tights under and throw a top over for an effortless stylish and warm look. If you aren't a legging or tights person, then I would go with short boots which would look better with jeans, pants, or even long skirts.

The most important essential is of course a warm puffer coat. Because we bundle up most of the winter time, I like to pick a non black coat. It helps you add color and make your skin, that hasn't sen much sun, glow. Contrary to what some think, colorful coats go with all outfits.

<![CDATA[Colorful This Winter]]>Wed, 17 Jan 2018 14:16:30 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/colorful-this-winterWhen it comes to fashion, there is nothing I love more than color. It is actually the most important element that gets forecasted ahead of time. Pantone Puts together the top color trends that influence fashion, automotive, and decor.
For this icy winter the warm shades are so appealing. I went for three colors I picked from the Pantone's palette for 2018. I picked Tawny Port for the coat which is a a deep burgundy with a touch of mauve. We've seen a lot of lipsticks this season in this color.

My next favorite is a color in between Grenadine and Autumn Maple as Pantone calls them. It's the color of my suede skirt below. Last but not least is Butterum which is a beige brown nude illustrated in my purse, boots and tights.

The beauty of the ten color palette Pantone came up with is that you can combine any colors on it and they will look harmonious. I went for an off white top to create more contrast and to make my color palette more vibrant.

<![CDATA[Time Is Up]]>Tue, 16 Jan 2018 19:44:48 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/time-is-upCelebrities stunned in black as they walked the red carpet in the last Golden Globes Awards. They all looked fierce, elegant, and flawless in their gowns and tuxes. What's been more beautiful though how they used their powerful statuses to send a strong, unified message.
In the past months stories of sexual abuse in the workplace surfaced everywhere. Women bravely came forward with their experiences of unwanted assaults. They encouraged other women to do so telling the world Time Is Up.

It's a message for all of us out there young or old to stand up for ourselves and refuse to take any kind of abuse or mistreatment. They paved the road for us to say no and not to settle. We succeed by our hard work not by accepting advances from our superiors.

Time Is Up is not only a message against sexual harassment. It's about not accepting bullying, ill treatment, abuse of any sort. It's a calling to eject those who mistreat you in any shape or form from your life and to hold them accountable for their actions

<![CDATA[Navy & Black]]>Thu, 11 Jan 2018 12:48:37 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/navy-blackOne of my favorite color combinations that has been trending for 2017-2018 is navy and black. We've seen a lot of it in fashion shows ranging from casual attires to evening gowns. If you are looking for an understated, elegant palette then this is for you.
Combining these two neutrals together create a subtle understated elegant look that has some depth. Wearing, for instance, a navy jacket over a black dress brings the outfit to life and makes it more interesting.

Now, if you still want a pop of color for these two neutrals, then green, I think, works wonders. In the outfit above I went for green earrings and a green purse to make the outfit more funky and fun.

Don't be afraid of color. Even if you are going with a neutral look, adding colors in the same family with the same intensity brings whatever you are wearing to life and attracts the eye. Neutrals are no longer restricted to whites, grays, and blacks.

<![CDATA[Another New Year!]]>Sun, 31 Dec 2017 15:21:24 GMThttp://elegantfashionista.com/-fashion-blog/another-new-yearSome of us have accomplished a lot this year, and some others feel that they failed their resolutions for 2017. For some this has been a good year, and for others they're glad it's over. December 31st is a day charged with different emotions, but for me it's actually just another day.
I am not being negative here. I've just stopped tying my goals and resolutions to a calendar year. If I fail, I pick myself up right away and start again regardless of the date. Every day brings new beginnings and new hopes. We don't have to wait till year end to evaluate. If you have something you need accomplished, start working on it right away.

I no longer like to label years as good or bad. It's life. We have to accept the bad as we do the good. Life goes on and always gives us another chance. Everything, other than death, has a solution and has a way out. Never feel stuck or helpless. As long as you still can take a breath, you can work it out.

This doesn't mean that we don't enjoy the New Year's celebrations. I take every chance to celebrate. So cheers to enjoying the good times, finding our way through the hard, and not loosing our sparkle and hope :)
