It's a snowy gloomy day. I look outside and everything looks grayish and monochromatic. I am starting to get the winter blues. Then I remembered in one of my trips how a beautiful rose coming out of a rock caught my eyes. Yes, I should use this lifeless background to show off a colorful outfit. I turn to my closet and I saw an old purple spring short dress.
When I design a space it all starts with a single piece; a rug, a painting, a tapestry,..etc. everything else has to work around this piece, it becomes the first thing I draw on my painting. Well, this purple dress in this case is my starting point and the first piece that is going on my design board. My task is to make it look winter appropriate.
1: Sweater tights: I love them..they let you wear short outfits yet keep you looking classy and elegant. Plus, they help "winterize" a light piece. In this case I went with a chocolate brown pair. Black would be too much of a contrast
2: a scarf: went through my scarf collection and found one I bought on sale recently from Saks Off 5TH. A Versace purple scarf. I love Versace because of the color and ornamentation they use. Looks great with solid pieces. I was keeping it for the spring, but why wait. I think it will look great with my dress.
3: dark chocolate brown high heeled boots. I used same color boots and tights to give this slim classy tall look. I am wearing old Gucci boots with horse bit logo
4: nude purse: who said nude is for summer? Nude is perfect for the winter months as it pops out beautifully.
5: Accessory: kept it simple with just a goldish hoop earrings from bebe.
6: Makeup: Since the outfit is colorful I kept my makeup neutral. I still did the smoky eyes but used a neutral palette. Am too pale in the winter and the smoky eyes make my face radiates. Went with a pinkish nude lipstick by Lancôme
The result is..
Ready to face the winter blues, but I need something to keep me warm. A sand color coat looks great with my brown gloves, boots, and tights. It also neutralizes my colorful outfit. I am wearing an old Burberry Brit double button coat.
